Fanny Mendelssohn’s colorful and deeply romantic String Quartet shines the spotlight on a gifted composer whose work was stifled during her lifetime. Music and poetry enhance our inner souls along the journey of life. Ralph Vaughan Williams created “Songs of Travel” from the poems of Robert Louis Stevenson describing love, memory and the passage of time. What endures? What is left behind for posterity? Béla Bartók crossed borders and cultures to collect Hungarian and Romanian folk melodies and transform them into classical music deeply connected to its roots. Music, like life, is a continual journey.
